Foot planning
Ok, SO, we are gonna need a diagram for this one.
The big rubber stompy footpaw is in a roughly circular shape (thick solid line) with a big pad at the bottom and four smaller toebeans near the top (dotted lines). It's not quite big enough for a whole foot to fit atop it in any orientation. Here's what I want. I want the two paws to be identical, so I can use either one on either foot. That means they have to accommodate both feet (thin solid lines). I want as little paw as possible to be between my feet (that's just asking to trip). I want most of my weight to be on top of those beans whether I'm standing flat or on tiptoes. I want three big, chunky toes.
BUT SU, THERE ARE FOUR TOEPADS. Yeah, I can count. I guess I gotta ask my foot-friendly pals what they think. If I'm already adding a finger to each hand, I guess adding a toe on each foot's not a big deal. Anyway, the number of toes doesn't really matter to the design; it's just foam padding.
The BIG question is how I'm gonna attach the foam and fur to the rubber. Stuffing a sewing needle through rubber sucks, I will readily admit. Also, it's concentrating force in a pretty small spot, so there's a good chance it might tear out of the rubber. If I had leatherworking tools, I could install some grommets. Maybe that's what I'll do. Hole punch, mallets, and then I can use tempered aluminum or titanium wire to hold it all together.
Edited to add: Yeah, I just wound up going to the local leather shop and grabbing some grommets, a punch, and a mallet. That's $39, so the total's up to $412, though obviously I can re-use most of this on other projects.
